Project Life Week 1–1/1-1/7

We are already a week into 2012, which means I have completed my first week of Project Life.  So far, I love it!  It truly simplifies scrapbooking and makes it easy to record the events of the week, which I am really happy about.

I am doing a weekly layout approach to PL, and I imagine that I will have at least 2 pages per week (most weeks, I am sure, I will go beyond 2 pages).  This week I had 4 pages..and we didn’t even do anything all that exciting!

Page one- I included a palette that I made using my PL Clementine Core Kit colors to symbolize the start of this project, a Facebook status from New Year’s Day that details my resolutions/goals for the year, a photo of Adison’s favorite game from her iPod (a Christmas gift) and 2 photos of Adison.  I also have a little bit of journaling included, and some papers from my core kit to fill in the blanks.  I didn’t do much extra embellishing, other than rounding my corners and a brad to attach the bottom left photo.

Page 2 – this is actually a 12x10 page that I sandwiched in the middle of my weekly layout. I love that the page is smaller, it allows me to add extra pictures & journaling but still be able to see the full week at a glance.  Adison was painting on this particular day and just one picture wasn’t enough for me!

Page 3 – This is actually a continuation of the same day as page 2.  Adison was cracking me up, she took feather embellished pens and stuck them in one of my manger pieces and bestowed upon me a bouquet!  I had to include it in my PL!

Page 4- More every day life.  Adison lounging on the couch and Ferguson blocking my shot.  A couch full of toys.  Dinner.  Adison displaying a game we played that night.   I never would have thought to document these things before…sure I’ve always taken the pictures, but I don’t DO anything with them.  Did I mention that I love Project Life?

I’ll be posting my PL pages each week- I may not go into as much detail, but I do want to share my pages and will likely do at least a weekly wrap up!

So..week one wrap up!

What I love:

It’s SO easy to use this system.  Everything is right there in a box, so there is no guess work.

I love rounded corners too!

Fine point sharpies <3

What I might change:

When time permits, I would love to get more into the design aspect.  Don’t get me wrong, it’s great that I don’t *have* to even think and it still looks pretty, but I do plan to use more embellishments and cut up my own papers as well, at least for some layouts!

I need a new corner rounding method – I am using a Fiskars punch, and it’s fine…but it gets all clogged with paper bits and I don’t love that!

Thanks for reading- if you are doing PL yourself, please comment, I would love to check out some other layouts!

Adison’s birthday invitation

I love playing in Photoshop, so one thing I do each year is make Adison’s birthday invitation. I love that I can personalize each detail of the invite, from photos of her, to coordinating backgrounds, and even fonts that go with the theme.

In May 2011 we took a family vacation to Disney World and we fell in L-O-V-E with all things Disney, so naturally when Halloween rolled around, a Minnie Mouse costume had to be whipped up (I admit,I didn’t make the dress – thanks to Gymboree for that one! But I did construct the ears, bow & of course the bright yellow shoe covers!).  Now that her birthday is around the corner (*sniff* my baby is almost FOUR!), I took advantage of our Halloween pictures and put together this Minnie Mouse themed invitation!

Then, I went ahead and made a little Mouse Palette as well…why not right? It only takes a few seconds to make these- I love a quick little project like that!

Family reunion

I've been really busy joining networking sites and sprucing up my blog.  I hope people like the new header & layout!

I just wanted to write a quick little entry about our day!  Today was Mike's family reunion, so we headed to Knox to barbecue and hang out for the day.

The highlight every year is the walk down to a creek where Mike hops in and tries to catch frogs!  While he did that, I took advantage of the opportunity to snap a few pictures of Miss Adison, and look how sweet this one came out!

And another of my favorites from the day (note Adison running away in the background, typical shot!)

And a closer crop, I just love the detail on this little flower!
Thanks for taking a peek, hope everyone else had a great weekend too!

4th of July bbq

Happy 4th of July...a day late, but I'll make up for it w/ all of these pictures!

First part of the day, Adison & I went to a BBQ at my Aunt & Uncle's house..family, good food, and a big yard that Adison loved to run around in.  Definitely had a great time!  Here are some pictures of Adison, my cousin's kids, my mom & my brother!

diy sticker book

So I found a tutorial for this adorable little sticker book on Samster Mommy.  I have been searching high and low for the perfect sticker book for Adison. She has a few little books that came with stickers, and they are great for what they are, but I wanted something with plain pages that she can place and replace her stickers over and over, and my search was getting way too long and way too fruitless for my taste.

The tutorial was easy to follow, and while my book did not turn out quite as neat & professionally done as I had hoped, I have to remind myself that a 2 year old does not care about even edging or pesky bits of dried hot glue.

I won't rehash the entire tutorial, which you can find right here, but I will say that I did follow the scrapbook paper tip.  I chose to use very bright & vivid patterned paper, which is nice because you can see it a little peeking through the freezer paper.  Instead of spray adhesive, I used plain white glue mixed with a teeny bit of water (just enough to make it a paint consistency) and then painted it on evenly with a small brush.

Here are my results:
See the little Hello Kitty sticker on the front cover?  Scored those in a 90% off package of valentines at Target this year....yup, 29 cents for a couple hundred stickers!

Lake George day trip

We took Adison to Lake George on Wednesday this week.  It's a little tourist trap town about 45 mins north of us...who in upstate NY hasn't been to Lake George? Whether it is for a quickie day trip, a weekend camping, or longer, everyone I know loves to head to LG at least once a summer.  We did a day trip this time, hit the beach, chinese for lunch (Adison's choice!) & one arcade on the strip.

I just did a quick cleanup of these images in lightroom...nothing fancy!

tumbling tot

Adison had a nice day today..you know, tantrums, less than an hour-long-nap, and falling face first on the floor and splitting her lip open. Good times!
But, my mom & brother did come over to see her, so she enjoyed that of course.  I made homemade vegetable soup & she literally said "Mmmm mmmm good!" so I guess it was a hit!  Non-homemade apple crumb pie for dessert & bedtime followed shortly after..she went to sleep a happy camper.

Lesson learned: yummy soup trumps (yet another) mouth injury.  Hope my darling wakes up in a happier mood tomorrow and no more tumbles!!

Outfit of the day

I asked Adison what she wanted to wear today...of course she goes running to her closet shouting "wear today...wear today!" and she grabbed at this little tutu & leggings set, so I grabbed it.  The leggings are capri length, so good thing we aren't going out anywhere today as it is chilly!
We paired it with this sweet "my heart belongs to daddy" tee from gymbo's Little Hearts line...love it!

Of course no outfit is complete without a bow or little clippie..these were a springtime fave and I am happy I found another outfit to match them with!
